When is a stack of milk crates not a stack of milk crates? When Christine Tarkowski screen prints photos of milk crates onto exterior-grade wall coverings. Wallpaper takes on a whole new meaning when used as camouflage by this artist, but the main principles of repetition and patterning are never overlooked. Tarkowsi’s bases run the gamut from Tyvek, vinyl siding and vacuum formed plastic and her patterns are of utilitarian materials, so from afar her installations give the illusion of being shelters.
