"ROSSETTO rosso base nera"
The shiny majolica sculptures of Giorgio Laveri may be of everyday objects, but their size is anything but. Laveri has focused his ceramics on series of bowling pins, fountain pens, film canisters and make-up. It is funny how the eye is attracted to distortions in size and we gravitate towards items that are either larger or smaller than in real life, especially glossy red lipstick. And oddly enough, the size, and fragility, of the piece forces the viewer to question both the concept of beauty and one’s own self-image.
