Abstract artist Doug Trump’s colour field paintings are punctuated by the addition of lines and figures that implies movement within a larger space. Trump works first with the initial colour field and lets it simmer before reacting to it by inserting drawings, extra layers of colour and collage. Trump’s paintings are very soft in tone and, although rich in movement, appear gentle in volume. And if you stare long enough, they seem a lot less abstract than they first did.
