Mike Park’s Oakland background comes to the forefront in his series “On the Brink of Hyper-Graphia”, all teenage angst and coping. The industrial sprawl of this California city is the setting for the hallucinatory-like depictions of youthful confusion and meanderings. Park’s lines are fine and colours candied, resulting in the dream state of his works. (Now if I could only get that Shaun Cassidy lament out of my mind, “Caught in a teen dream, teen dream, ooh ahhh …”)
