When I first set eyes on Reverse I had to stare for a little while. I was intrigued by the fleshiness, and the dimpling of the subject. Then the penny dropped. Slowly, unbelieving, I came to realize what it was I was looking at. And then to learn that this, the otherwise humble jelly donut, was the signature symbol of the artist, Emily Eveleth! Eveleth’s still lifes border on portraiture, evoking a sensuousness by way of lush classical painting.
