"No debo prostituirme"
Common themes running through the work of Costa Rican artist Priscilla Monge are walls (sometimes brick, sometimes sanitary napkins), the school punishment of writing lines on the blackboard and soccer. Her most recent repeated statements pertain to certain female self-esteem issues: I should not prostitute myself, I should not feel pain, I should not be afraid, or I should not be stupid. These are written over and over on chalkboards, and one installation is an entire area of a gallery covered over with blackboards bearing similar thoughts or anxieties.
