"Portrait de Fille"
Nie Jian Bing’s twist on his classic portraits of well-known figures and images of the Renaissance is the superimposition of a grid of asymmetrical acupuncture meridians. Chinese characters laid out upon the Western face of the subject mark key acupuncture points in order to contrast the ways of life and philosophies of East and West, much the way the serenity found in the face is contradicted by the lines and characters laid upon it. Trained in France, Nie Jian Bing divides his times between Montreal, Paris and China.
