"The Street"
The late Jacob Lawrence worked in many a medium over the years, but consistently produced colourful records of African-American life. Lawrence’s pictures, whether silkscreens, murals, lithographs or paintings, depict human activity indoors and out, by way of a fresh narrative style. Lawrence peopled his works with angular, sometimes faceless, characters that are going about the business of daily living. Playing, working, voting, being – these are the people in your neighbourhood.
