Painter Tomory Dodge uses bold brushstrokes to lay on the detail in his oils and the paint itself plays an important role in his compositions. A painterly artist, Dodge creates tableaux of outdoor scenes that mix nature with some evidence of man’s presence. A cactus is covered in clothing, a drum set sits at the very core of the weekend, a bus slowly sinks into the sea. Totemic structures are built of man’s leftovers under blue skies and snowmen are decorated with his cast-offs. But some of Dodge’s canvases are the simple statements of an artist who is clearly enjoying making his art.
