The aptly-titled Explosions was the debut solo show of British photographer Sarah Pickering. The eight large-scale photos were shot at a police and military facility where a variety of bombs are detonated for various exercises. Each blast results in a different effect, so the colour and lighting of each photograph is quite distinct. The pyrotechnics seem out of sync with the quiet English countryside in this simulation of reality, and images that would usually pertain to violence appear to be part of a magical moment when it all goes ‘poof’.
