Hervé Ic’s paintings range from historically-based naval battles to more recent rave scenes and portraits of his contemporaries. Ic’s paintings make use of layering techniques that result in an effect of photographic double exposure. This lends movement as well as light to the subjects. Ravers appear to be dancing, reflections add sparkle to a young woman’s face, ships sway with the strokes. And Ic’s raw portraits of youth are tempered, or softened, by the inclusion of his lighting effects.
