Australian artist Dorothy Napangardi fills her canvases with movement by way of dots and lines, forming a landscape that mirrors the oscillations of a journey through the desert of the Northern Territory, an area dear to her. At first glance, Napangardi’s works are abstractions of geometric patterning, but these patterns are symbolic of pathways made by the activity in the Mina Mina region, home to the artist. Napangardi maps her world, and the world of her ancestors whose travels to hunt, sing and dance wore the pathways through the landscape.
