At first glance the work of Wolf Kahn may appear to be that of the traditional landscape: all birch trees and barns. But surely this cannot be all that modern and contemporary, one says to oneself, wondering how one’s attention was caught. And then a title gives it all away. Nature in Unnatural Colors could be a theme as well as a title, drawing the eye in to Kahn’s forests of vivid light. The intensity of the hues in his paintings and drawings are not garish, but masterful and finally one realizes that this is what nature probably looks like if viewed properly, with more than just the eyes.
