Although Benjamin Edwards’ acrylic paintings and prints look as though they represent a sci-fi universe, Edwards uses the old-fashioned road trip as a means of gathering material for his projects. In addition to recording fast-food joints, motels and other examples of roadside architecture, Edwards also incorporates traffic symbols and commercial signage into his logs, in order that the eventual tapestry of consumerism that he derives from his journeys be as rich and full of depth as possible. Sometimes as many as 300 digital photos are factored into a single painting.
