Saskatchewan painter and printmaker Nicole Foran takes a mundane grooming ritual and prettifies it in her silkscreen print entitled Toenail Clippings. Foran preserves the popular by making it ornamental and pushing it towards more global significance. Her subjects are often women either singly or in groups, caught in moments of friendship or reflection. Reproductive Tea Party is a succinct comment on social rites of passage that ultimately form lives while Ice Cream Dish serves up human characteristics with dessert. An I Wish Statement combines the two ideas: blowing out the candles on a birthday cake. Tidy.
