Milanese painter Alessandro Papetti aims to capture moments on canvas the same way a movie reel stuck in a freeze frame does, movement rendered still life. Papetti is particularly adept at doing so with his aquatic themes: ships in port, swimmers in pools or ponds, but his interiors are equally haunting. He approaches painting the way one would photography, taking the time to carefully select a study, then working quickly to preserve the scene as he saw it. Fast brush strokes accurately translate Papetti’s shimmering observations, while imbibing them with an air of mystery.
