"Matisse: The Fabric of Dreams - His Art and His Textiles
On until September 25 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY is an exhibition that shows Henri Matisses textile collection alongside the artwork that depicts some of his fabrics, clothing and rugs. Matisse, always highly regarded as a master of modern art, had many family connections in the textile industry which no doubt influenced his passion for fabric. Pansies and Still Life with Blue Tablecloth are based on a piece of floral cotton Matisse picked up at a second hand shop, which is part of the exhibition. Also present is the Ottoman silk robe portrayed in Purple Robe and Anemones.
