Brandi Brooks is a San Francisco painter whose oils beg to be touched. And that’s exactly what the artist wants, citing “tactile monkey” as a personal description. Brooks, originally a sculptor, now builds dimension on the canvas, layering oils to create a topography within the painting. In fact, the texture of the work plays as important a role as the colour or the forms depicted. Brooks also incorporates found objects and other media into her works, again adding depth to her abstract and figurative pieces.
