Rob Elliott is a Toronto artist who has faithfully produced a monkey drawing every Monday since May 2000 in order to get his creative juices flowing for the week. Elliott’s illustrative style (evocative of pop illustration of the 1950s and 60s) works well for his update on anthropomorphization. One of the worlds he presents is one peopled by animals who have gained the upper hand, particularly evident in his VEAL series. The Boozehound collection of drawings tells the classic tale of a dog who drinks, and it is not unusual to come across images of little girls with guns or birds with knives within Elliott’s wide range of work.
