Flying Pins is a large-scale sculptural installation by artists Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen inaugurated in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 2000. The city was after an eye-catcher to celebrate the millennium as well as its status as an ever-growing presence on the map of the European Union. An important commercial intersection become home to Flying Pins, with the street (or ‘laan’ in Dutch) serving as an ersatz bowling lane to the lucky strike. Oldenburg and van Bruggen are pop art giants whose public sculptures have delighted viewers around the world.
