American Kristin Baker provides us with a collision of colour in her series of auto racing paintings. These Abstract Expressionist works (referred to as “dysfunctional panoramas” by the artist) burst with speed and movement, recalling the Futurists. The racetrack is her landscape and although Baker experienced the sport through her racecar driver father, she has come to see racing as a microcosm of capitalism. She uses the theatricality of racing with its reliance on danger and chance to highlight the sensationalism of mass entertainment.

Currently exhibiting at the ACME Gallery in LA, Baker will soon show six billboard-sized paintings along the raceway of the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix in early May.
