Not only are Giuseppe Gabellone’s flower heads made of larger-than-life blue Styrofoam, but must be seen to spring forth from the most barren of Italian industrial wasteland. His use of inorganic materials and their juxtaposition against the rough surroundings looks terribly odd at first, but then the eye sees the subtle link between the industrial nature of both material and setting. One of the golden boys of the Italian art scene, Gabellone allows the ambiguity of dimensionality to be settled by the viewer. Photography or sculpture?
