Gregory Colbert’s exhibition of 200+ large-scale photographic artworks depicting the peaceful connection between man and beast opened March 5 in New York. These sepia-toned works cannot but evoke a sense of the spiritual, bestowing calm upon the viewer. Colbert collaborates with various elements of nature (elephants, whales, falcons, children, monks), seeking to harmonize man’s links to the world around him. Ashes and Snow is now on until June 6 at the Nomadic Museum, Pier 54. Check your cynicism at the entrance.

These huge 10 foot by 4 foot photos from exotic locales such as Burma, India, Antarctica and Ethiopia have been sepia-printed on handmade Japanese paper. National Geographic it's not.
