Online store for modern design and art. Seattle-based Velocity Art and Design has both design and art in their webstore, and it’s an interesting mix. On the edge of art and design are Marc Lawrence’s light sculptures and Jeff Koons’ Puppy Sculpture. As for design, of note, Stephen Burks picture frames by Pure Design, William Earle’s sculptural furniture and Velocity’s own CD Box.

The Japanese minimalist version of IKEA with smaller products and better packaging. Muji, actually Mujirushi Ryohin, is an international chain store for furnishings and clothing that originated in Japan. The goods are all logo- and label-free, often made of recyclable materials in earth-tone hues of white, brown, beige, slate and silver. Though Mujirushi Ryohin means “no brand goods” in Japanese, Muji does work with name designers such as Fukazawa Naoto and Sam Hecht. The online store sells a small selection of what’s available in the offline stores, but a larger selection is available for viewing at their

L.A.-based retail and online store Plastica has a singular selection of modern plastic stuff including Marcel Wanders’ Pebbles, minimalist dishes by Betsy Davis the Queen of Plastic, Design Cafeteria’s bent plastic furniture, as well as Droog Design. The faux wood grain Plastica house brand goods are fun.
