William Speakman, who trained at the Akademie St.Joost, is currently exhibiting some of his recent lighting at the 2X2 Projects Gallery in Amsterdam. The lighting makes use of LEDs, wood, paint and tape in a series entitled Experience and Logic Structure.

I had the chance to meet South-Korean designer Kwangho Lee right before the recent opening of a solo-exhibition of his recent work at Montreal's Mile-End Commissaires. The design boutique/gallery is showcasing Lee's series of light installations, lamps made and shaped by knitted and purposefully tangled electric wire.

Lee has been making these lamps for two years now. His initial idea was simple, to turn the lamp inside-out, getting rid of the lamp shade and body, keeping only the essentials, thus exposing the customary hidden wires. He studied wire weaving, exploring traditional techniques and the subtleties of electric wiring for his final grad project in design school. Combining that knowledge to the lamp sculpting came instinctively, treasuring fond memories of his mother knitting sweaters or gloves, he tackled and tweaked the traditional techniques to suit his craft.

Marko Macura will premiere some new designs in the Zona Tortona area of Milan next week, in a shared exhibit with Jacco Bregonje called Reflectons. The Sulla Luna Bench, previously available in brass or aluminium, will be presented in two metres of black, along with the Nebula lamp and Mimi after the jump.

SpHaus will be showing new products at both the Salone and Fuorisalaone next week in Milan. Chairs and lamps are the focus of this year’s collection. Shown above is Manolo Bossi’s L.A. lighting that can be used as a floor or table lamp. In white with a contrasting red wire, this aluminum-shaded lamp gives off downward light. The THX 1138 floor lamp (after the jump), a very zen disc on a tall stem, is by Filippo Dell’Orto throws its light up towards the ceiling. Seating includes a line by Carlo Contin, Fat Body and Thin Body, chairs designed for offices and public spaces as well as living rooms. EX.PILOT, by Dodo Arslan, is an armchair that looks fit for a cockpit.
