long_live_factory_chairs_i_love_you.jpg
i LOVE YOU is an art and design collective "saving the world and the environment through social change." A recent show titled LONG LIVE featured these 18 year old factory chairs used by factory workers in the Philippines on the actual factory production line. They were made from scrap factory materials and put together by the workers. Re-furbished and restored by the designers for contemporary use, they too used scrap fabric material.

It's safe to say the 360° chair is a love it or hate it product, one of those objects that are impossible to ignore. The unique office chair designed by Konstantin Grcic and manufactured by Magis is striking for its unconventional proportions and the somewhat odd choice of materials.

(In fact it's a lightning rod, see the 360° on trial at Abitare - via @designunseen on Twitter)

PANAY by undpartner(punkt)at

undpartner_bathroom_unit.jpg
Austria's undpartner(punkt)at featured a space-saving bathroom unit consisting of a tub, shower, sink and storage at SaloneSatellite (PANAY, above). It would be really interesting to live with a design like this for a while. From Singapore, Jarod Lim and airdesigngroup shared a stand in Milan this year. The 70cm high bed with drawers and Every Sunday, a daybed/sofa/table hybrid, are two innovative pieces from airdesigngroup that take a slightly different approach to making use of space. Among several designs presented by Lim, Koi is a chair that can be seen as a cross between fish scales and a wrought iron gate - this would look great on any patio, porch or balcony.

Inspired by the ancient art of topiary designer Paola Navone created the Ivy collection for Italian outdoor furniture maker EMU. The collection is now available in North America via Coalesse. Combining "the ornamental pruning of trees and hedges to create 'furniture sculpture'" and "exploiting the ingenuity, creativity and the extreme versatility of metal" resulted in a light and minimal collection of outdoor sofas, chairs and tables. The objects are made to be left outdoors where it can be grown into by ivy "like statues, and those who sit on it will fully experience the feeling of being immersed in nature."

Culla Sinuè by Daniela Avaltroni

culla_sinue_crib_daniela_avaltroni.jpg
The Culla Sinuè crib by Daniela Avaltroni is a sleek crib in the form of a womb-like shell. A movable hood lifts to provide shade and quiet, and is set upon compression springs and stainless steel legs. Another streamlined piece of furniture is the new cabinet by Gauthier Poulain, a racetrack-shaped shelving unit that nestles into a stand. There is something about this piece that is reminiscent of luggage. More storage options are available with No Problem's Flip Table, designed by Signe Baansgaard. The table is a workstation that can be covered to become a dining table at the end of the day. Leave your work as it is, cover up the mess and start again when ready.

Campana Carpet by A/R Studio

campana_carpet_ar_studio.jpg
The Campana carpet by A/R Studio is meant to evoke memories of playing hopscotch on the pavement of an old courtyard while enjoying some relaxed, contemporary barefoot play. The Del Del cabinet by Pore is one of two storage pyramids of drawers and cupboards that have an imposing, almost formal presence. Considerably less formal is the Miami shoe hanger by Apparatu & Mashallah design, a notched rail that beckons to stilettos. And Sebastian Jansson went the hanging route with all of his wares at SaloneSatellite: Habitus Stools, Cumulus Lamps and Tempus Kitchen Utensils are all hanging on the wall or from the ceiling.
