London-based Anna James carefully restores twentieth century furniture before adding her hand-painted designs to complete the transformation. Her current collection, Verona, is a mix of graffiti, brightly coloured dots, modern art and pinstripes. James pays attention to the insides of drawers and cupboards that contrast subtly with the vivid exteriors.

+ Lovegrove & Repucci are launching the new London Delft series of porcelain dinnerware. The five-piece settings bring the London streets to the table in an unusual, yet traditional, manner.

+ We are looking forward to seeing Bev Hisey’s new hand-knotted rugs at ICFF. The rugs are inspired by oil paintings her grandmother did in the 1950s and are as effective as wallhangings as floorcoverings.

+ This origami-inspired dish by Rachel Young called Fold is a polypropylene fruit bowl (or centerpiece for dry articles) that has been carefully hand-folded.

Romolo Stanco showed pieces from the new Reflections On My Grandmother collection from Nonesiste in Zona Tortona’s Nhow Hotel. Grandmother is a very simple glass table that combines new technologies with baroque lace decoration. Killthequeen is a mirror that focuses on continuous geometric lines, and the Quelcheresta lighting shows “what remains” – the section of the lighting when the lamp shape is removed. Danish Crafts, an independent design group under the Danish Ministry of Culture, will be presenting the latest Crafts Collection at the end of the week at ICFF. Crafts Collection 12 will feature works that look at safe sex, animal welfare and fair trade by way of a refined mix of materials, technique and humour. Over 20 designers and craftspeople have been chosen to participate in this collection of furniture, glassware, textiles, ceramics and jewellery. Switzerland’s Postfossil presented some interesting projects at Salone Satellite in Milan. One of these was TheSpill by Corina Zuberbühler, made up of two rectangles, cushions and a carpet element that can be mixed and matched to create a sofa, a lounge chair, a guest bed or an island. The Branch series by Michael Niederberger uses branches as the legs for chairs and tables and First Light by Anna Blattert and Daniel Gafner is a reading lamp powered by a weight and cog wheels. No plugging in required.

The Botanist Blank Canvas series is a new collection of Botanist benches, end tables and cocktail tables designed for Orange22 by eight leading designers. Dario Antonioni and Brandon Lynne conceived the Botanist series to be a simple canvas suitable for water-jet cutting and adaptable to the creative process. The designers’ royalties go to foundations or charities of their choice and matched by Orange22. The new series will be launched during ICFF next week and consists of work by Yves Behar, Milton Glaser, Karim Rashid, Kahi Lee, Claude Zellweger, Margo Chase, Joe Richhio and Massimo and Leila Vignelli.
