Tai Ping, luxury carpet producer, will present three new collections in Milan, collaborations with Cappellini, Frederikson Stallard and Arik Lévy. Lévy’s project includes Maous, a free-form silk and soy limited edition rug that is part of the Rock Collection. This will be presented at Nilufar. Capellini will be showing the Magic Carpet Collection at their showroom and Fredrikson Stallard’s Cavern rug is part of the Cavern Collection at the Swarovski Crystal Palace.

Maude Décor’s new collections, Star Quest and Famous Canadian Mountains, will be launched at this week’s Interior Design Show in Toronto. Star Quest is a modern and creative interpretation of various constellations in a smashing array of colours. Famous Canadian Mountains offers up the topography of several peaks for a truly original collection of floor coverings. Above we have examples of Hydra, Andromeda, Ursa Major and Hydra. Arja Rantala and Sami Haikonen are the two young designers behind the Finnish design collective Osuma. The pair find inspiration in the forms of their surrounding countryside, as can be seen in Soil, a ceramic tile based on the topography of Helsinki's Töölö Bay. Left uncut, the tiles create a continuous landscape, but when used in smaller pieces new patterns begin to emerge. JK

HZL by Henzel is a Swedish multi-disciplinary design studio that specializes in the production of hand-tufted rugs of New Zealand wool, silk, viscose, alpaca and mohair that are based on the art of Calle Henzel. The rugs are strikingly modern, either all over graphics or very simple backgrounds with few elements in the composition. Designs range from sexy and kicky to peaceful and subdued to plain old cool. The HZL selection is surprisingly large and varied.

Dan Golden Inc. has a humourous series of hand-tufted rugs of New Zealand wool that make a bold statement on any floor. Chrome dyes are used for colourfastness and though the humour may be light and of the moment, the rugs will last a lifetime. These contemporary designs look great in minimalist settings, especially those where a smile wouldn’t go amiss.
