Bathroom Fixtures
Slide

The Slide faucet collection by Alain Berteau for RVB evolved from Berteau’s Dose faucet. Slide has a top section that functions much the way a dimmer switch does: the more you slide, the warmer the water gets. The movement is intuitive and one-way. The continuous movement of the slide allows the user to determine the desired water temperature ergonomically with less waste. Other features include adjustable ultra-thin flow aerators, and there are bath and shower fixtures that work on the same principle. Slide will be launched in Milan next month.

Ebb, Loop and Line
Posted by Harry Bathroom Fixtures | 31 Jan 08 | Comments (7)

ustogether_ebb_bathroom.jpg
British/Irish design collective UsTogether has officially launched their glass sided Ebb bathroom line plus two new designs, Loop and Line. Loop includes a freestanding bath and matching recliner as well as graphic panels on the side which allows for customization. Line is the latest addition to the range, "a solid form centred around the concept of diminishing lines, the structures of the sink and bath are not interrupted by fixtures". All water flow mechanisms are hidden from view and are motion-activated. The forms are augmented by hidden light panels with various color options. The bath fills via a waterfall which flows down over the surface of the light panel while the sink fills with four flow options: a blade of water for washing hands, a light shower for rinsing and hot and cold jets of water for shaving or brushing teeth.

Milan 2007: Grohe
Posted by Harry Bathroom Fixtures | 14 May 07 | Comments (1)

grohe_ondus_faucet.jpg
German faucet maker Grohe presented Grohe Ondus in Milan this year, a new iconic collection for the bathroom designed by Paul Flowers. In a break with tradition, it’s all black with handles that appear to flow from cylindrical bases, and if that isn’t enough, the faucet system has an icon-based user interface with “emotional icons” that “ensure the digital control provides a positive affinity with water”. I assume that means you won’t burn yourself. The AquaFountain, shown above, has a digital control with two modes; Sleep, when not in use, and Awake which displays a series of simple backlit icons. Preset functions allow the user to personalize their bathing experience, presumably temperature and duration. A Pause function allows the user to temporarily stop the water flow – then with a single touch, the water is reactivated without the need to search once more for the optimum temperature and flow.

hoch³

With hoch³ designers Daniel Dittmann and Sven Fischer have proven that there’s still lots of room to innovate in bath design. The hoch³ concept was created for Kaldewei, one of Europe’s largest bath manufacturers. It's a modular system of interchangeable elements that you combine based on the need. I particularly liked the wall panel system with integrated fixtures, and the pop-out panels with lighting. It’s also designed to be easily and inexpensively assembled. It’s a concept for now, here’s hoping Kaldewei builds it. Via DESIGNSPOTTER.
