Establishing identity was one of the mandates addressed by SDESIGNUNIT's recent work for Daelim, a Korean construction company. The focus was on fixtures such as light switches, plug plates and intercom systems. Using the square as a model rather than solely the typical rectangle, SDESIGNUNIT was able to produce a series of tidy, user-friendly solutions. The light switch is a push button with a tiny LED light inside to guide users; the thermostat control is set in the fixture's frame and the indicator is within the central square; a remote control for lighting stands upright instead being buried under the detritus of everyday living; a networking display monitors inside the house and out.

+ The new solar birdhouse by Oooms has a solar panel on its roof that charges a small battery. The perch lights up at dark and attracts nighttime snacks for the birds.

+ The Ooob is a surprisingly heavy doorstop that can also be used as a bookend. Created by Headsprung, the Ooob has a steel core covered in silicone rubber and weighs about 1.2 kg.

+ Marc Sadler's Phalène by Robots chair will be presented at the next Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. The bearing structure is made of 10mm folded and welded iron rod with 5mm folded and electro welded ribbing.

+ Radius' Tree Of Charge, "while the cell phone, digital camera and mp3 player charge their batteries under the tree, the bothersome mains adapters are hidden inside. The decorative tree made of powder-coated steel is not just low-maintenance greenery, but also functions as a key rack and magnet board."

+ Susan Bradley's rubber outdoor carpets/rugs, "The designs are produced from durable, waterproof and sustainable rubber and are available in 80 beautiful colours to suit any space."

+ Former Design Director and co-founder of British furniture company Established & Sons, Mark Holmes will be presenting his debut collection of MINIMALUX desk and tableware in Milan. "Defined as a luxury brand with a stripped-down aesthetic, MINIMALUX utilises just a few basic but effective elements as the ingredients of its operational structure and product design. It is a uniquely contrasting combination of opposites, resulting in an identity that is as rigidly formal as it is preciously adorned."

Studio FRST's new TV concept, 16943, is presented as a technological sculpture, a black picture on a glass base. The screen is designed to work as a 2-in-1, offering two formats for viewing: a 16/9 format for films and 4/3 for television. This concept is based on the needs filled by contemporary screens.

+ Antrepo's Tuner Time (or I'm not a clock) is a stereo FM radio that is part of the "I'm not" series. The simple radio has one wheel for choosing frequency and another for volume, and also comes with a remote control.

+ Huib van Muilwijk's shelving system for Made By Midas is designed for adults or children, as the lower area can be adapted for use as a desk, shelf space or a play area. A chair can be hung off the shelf rails and a variety of shelves or drawers can be fitted into the slots.

+ Ryan Dart's new Quarry table was inspired by fossils that he would find while camping in Utah. The table, comprised of panels that slot into each other at right angles, has the air of a skeleton about it.

+ Harvest is a bowl by Stanley Ruiz made of leather string woven over a coated steel frame. This piece is from the NeoFolk collection that celebrates rural life and natural materials.
