blobwall1.jpg
The latest in bricks is a blob, by Greg Lynn FORM, Machinous and Panelite who have created an interlocking tri-lobed shape through rotational moulding. The colourful plastic blob is made of a low-density, recyclable, impact-resistant polymer, and is meant to be an alternative to the traditional brick. The blobs will be available in stock shapes in about 10 different colours, and can also be customized. After the Blobwall Pavilion installation opens in the SCI-Arc Gallery, it will travel to Venice to be part of the Architecture Biennale.

mobi_airstream_project.jpg
Kevin Fitzsimons has recognized my personal weakness for Airstreams and sent MoCo Loco his MObi project, a restoration and modernization of a 1978 Sovereign 31’ Airstream Land Yacht. "Designed for today’s wealthy traveler, MObi will encompass the latest in available smart technology, be completely green and loaded with creature comforts.".

denver_modern_house.jpg
Angelo wrote us yesterday to let us know that he and Nancy are building a compact modern home in Denver, Colorado. "This house project is for our family, and in our mind a great test in realizing the many concepts we’ve been intrigued with. Angelo’s background is architecture and Nancy’s is historic preservation/ adaptive reuse.". The website has all the details from interior and exterior renderings (seen at different times of day) through to the latest construction, the cedar siding installation above. Thanks Angelo!

kithaus_k3_big_sur.jpg
Kithaus recently installed one of their K3 Modernist modules in Big Sur, California. Designed by Tom Sandonato and Martin Wehmann, the K3 is a 9’ x 13’ pre-wired prefab module that is made of a lot of lightweight anodized aluminium that does not require heavy equipment to get it to the installation site. Interestingly, along with the Airstream CCD, the Kithaus K3 is available through DWR.

metmoc_church.jpg
+ Studio Design Rafaschierii recently completed an interesting project for a church in Metz: modern chancel furniture in magnesium and glass. Very non-traditional!

metmoc_ball.jpg
+ The Z-ball by James Van Vossel is an inflatable ergonomic ball, but its 3 handles are positioned in such a way to allow the user to sit farther forward than on most balls. This supports the loin area more and results in more comfortable seating.

metmoc_keer.jpg
+ Reinier de Jong’s KEER can be a lounger of 2 different heights or a stool, or even combined to form a sofa or bench. The KEER element is 8” wide – it is up to the user to determine the use.
