"A deliciously rebellious mini hot plate", part of Nika Zupanc's I Will Buy Flowers Myself exhibit currently on display in Milan, is an appliance with a story. Zupanc designed the hot plate exclusively for Gorenje, a design-oriented creator of home appliances based in Slovenia. Per Gorenje "Mrs. Dalloway is deconstructing the myth that household appliances are only made for kitchens and housewives. Due to its unusual shape, it comes closer to resembling a fashion accessory than a kitchen appliance." More after the jump.

+ The Staypuff Crib by 20.87 Design Studio in São Paulo combines the base of a pushcart with a traditional crib. This very portable crib is a practical idea whose base is a combination of pneumatic wheels and metal and the top is of reforested Pinus wood.

+ Combining traditional weaving techniques with modern materials, the Mimi magazine rack by Ivey Lian is created by weaving thin strips of clear acrylic into a rib structure of molded acrylic. Mimi has two pockets for newspapers and magazines and a shallow pocket for letters.

+ The Unvase by dOt is a set of two vases that make up the silhouette of a traditional vase. The optical illusion is heightened further by the use of black and white glaze to highlight the form.

The Ponton fireplace fits into a frame that combines shelving and boxes that can be reconfigured as the need arises. When the Ponton is needed, it can be slotted into the top level and then re-placed lower down when not in use. The tempered glass and stainless steel fireplace is an urban campfire that can be used indoors or out. The bio-ethanol can burn for up to 2 1/2 to 3 hours with minimal CO2 emissions.

More pieces at D3 that caught Huib's eye included Hanna Tonek Bonnett Saga vases, textured on the outside and printed on the inside, along with a range of her printed tea cups. Also on display was the GSechs Grillstation, a grill set in a wooden base and South Korea's Hongik University Department of Furniture Design put together a furniture buffet of creatively conceived chairs, after the jump.

Some of Philippe Rahm's new work is being exhibited in the VIA section of the Maison & Objet show in Paris which ends today. There is a very good-looking air exchanger made of wood and glass, as well as seating, lighting and heating components. The exchanger above, called Ventilation, is filled with slices of wood from trees found in the Parisian environs which perfumes the incoming air. His latest collection of seating, after the jump, is reminiscent of the beach: lifeguard chairs of varying heights and a low chair to set in the sand. Put all together, the parts make up a very serene sum.
