More fun stuff from Dutch Design Week, like fork and saucer candles at Eat Drink Design by Dick Van Hoff and the excellent bowl by Studio Divers with a Dutch skyline along the edge. Dandelions were combined with lighting in a couple of instances, and there was also a hanging lamp that makes use of the user’s clothes by Pieter de Caluwé. Speaking of hanging, there were elegant Kleer hangers by Studio Wesselsboer in the shape of leaping ladies. More nifty designs after the jump.

Dutch Design Week 2007: Shine

ddw_2007_shine_luis.jpg
Eindhoven events and exhibits were too exciting to keep MoCo correspondent Luis Alicandu away, so he crossed the Channel for a quick immersion into Dutch Design Week. Impossible to resist the shine. And if one got too distracted, there were always the vanity mirrors by Merel van Telligen to remind us of our flaws. From the gorgeous cutlery on display at Eat, Drink, Design to the giant mirrored spoon in the Studio Job exhibit at the new Designhuis, there was a lot of flash, which was balanced by a whole lot of wood. More after the jump.

This Week from Tokyo

PEN Magazine Posters
+ Tokyo Design Week is on as of today, and it's going to be impossible not to stumble upon some sort of design-related event or exhibition over the next few days. Tokyo Designer's Week, 100% Design Tokyo, and DesignTide are all running until November 4, with Swedish Style (this year more compact, and including presences at both DesignTide and 100% Design Tokyo) until November 8.

DesignTide
+ Yesterday we were treated to the press preview of DesignTide, and even though things were still coming together before today's official opening, we got a nice look at what is certainly a great step up from last year's edition. A more spacious location means that the various installations are easier to take in, and the outdoor shop exhibition (presented by some of the city's top interior stores) is a great idea -- and the fact that it's covered means that even the rain that's threatening to come down over the next couple of days shouldn't be too much of a bother.

Pecha Kucha Night/
+ There are of course plenty of events and parties vying for everyone's attention, but let's at least point out tomorrow night's (November 1, from 19:00) Pecha Kucha Night, which is set to be the biggest edition ever, being held at the DesignTide main site. It also marks the release - fresh off the press as of yesterday - of the Pecha Kucha Night book, which you can pick up at the Tide Mart. Photo: Jan Chipchase

+ Denmark’s ProDesign offers eyeglass frames that can be customized by interchanging almost forty different temples and frame fronts, allowing you to choose colour combinations no one else would. When the Art.Lebedev Studio was faced with a Hallowe’en problem, there was only one way to fly out of it. The mission: Do something before October 31st. The solution: the Vespertilium clothes peg, to remind your neighbours that your laundry is Hallowe’en-ready.
