Vessel, maker of the Candeloo rechargeable candle, has come up with this combo rechargeable lantern and nightlight. The portable light charges magnetically when hung on the path-marking night light. Great for blackouts (2003 was a banner year!).

Roll-up checker set.
The ROLZ Checker Set is a stained and lacquered solid maple and leather board with coordinated wood veneered checker pieces that rolls up in a leather carrying case for storage. "The challenge was to reinvent the way we interpret a classic flat game board," explains designer Matt Carr. "No one has attempted to make a portable game of such high quality luxurious materials. We wanted these games to be as interactive and fun to set up as they are to play." Indeed.

Product designer Peter Schmidt continues his collaboration with carpet maker Vorwerk with a new series in the Pieces collection. The collection also adds other designs by architects Coop Himmelblau and Vorwerk house designer Erhard Gennrich.

Multi-purpose ottoman.
Once and Twice is multi-purpose seating that can function as an ottoman, worktop/coffee table or chair/sofa with seatback. Suspended on a light chromed steel base, the foam seat has a removable fabric cover that’s also available in leather. Designer Jacob Pringiers’ other designs include a shag covered chaise longue for Arcade, a range hood for Elica and Sonic cutlery for WMF.

Inspired house numbers.
House Industries is the type foundry that created the typeface Neutraface, inspired by architect Richard Neutra. Now, together with Apollo Marconi, they’ve produced a 3D version made of hollow channel stainless steel. These custom-made design-to-order house numbers are available in any size.
