Details: Broken is a furniture series by Finnish designer Jalmari Laihinen, aka byJalmari. The connecting parts, the legs of stools and tables for example, have been broken, showing splinters of wood at the points of rupture.

Laihinen's work combines cabinetmaking, carving and furniture design with the aim to produce playful, thought-provoking works.

"Wood is not just a material." says Laihinen. "It was once the living body of a tree. Wood cracks, breaks and has defects. Often pieces holding these resources are discarded as unwanted, but their value should be embraced as unique."

"When given the chance, a generous collaboration between the maker and material can grow. This respect for the material has become Broken, an ongoing investigation into breaking wood. An endeavor to find forms that can accommodate the personality of both partners."
