Like skin that covers muscle and bones, IKEA folding furniture is transformed when covered with an elastic outer material.

Skin is a collection of furniture designed for Stockholm's Crystal contemporary art gallery for temporary exhibitions. Made of folding IKEA furniture where the outer material, a readymade combination of tricot and zippers, determines the shape of the object.

The Skin collection was created by Katja Pettersson, one of the founders of Swedish design group Front and since 2009 is an independent designer who asks "Is the form an established icon and design process mimics the familiar object's former shape history?"
