MOCO'12: Hecho en México
by Harry / January 5, 2013

In November Joel Escalona's "boolean", a set of two drawers with a third that intersects the two, stood out for its clever design, however in 2012 "Hecho en México" (made in Mexico) was the news.

"Hecho en México" was the name of the exhibition where Joel Escalona's Booleanos chest of drawers was shown during Design Week México 2012.

2012, for us at MOCO, was also the year where Mexican design and architecture surfaced as a source of consistently good works. S-AR stación-ARquitectura's Casa 2G urban sanctuary in Monterrey, Endémico Resguardo Silvestre by Gracia in Baja and House La Punta by Central de Arquitectura in Mexico City to name just a few of the outstanding architectural projects.

As for notable design, in addition to Booleanos, Hierve's modular Wardrobe System that mixes traditional wardrobes and glass cabinets, Gabriela Sánchez y Sánchez de la Barquera colourful Shawls and Las Nenas by Christian Vivanco neatly combine identity and craft.
