ASCII codes represent text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that use text. In the early years of personal computing, simple graphics using ASCII codes became a popular art form.

The ASCII art phenomenon continues to exist in the social and mobile web, though now often constrained to a 140 character canvas to fit into a Twitter message.

Ginder's wallpaper is a more abstract form of ASCII art that, unlike screen-based ASCII art, reveals itself when seen from a distance.
