Möbius Ring by Fluid Forms
by Harry / August 31, 2009

With a surface that has only one side and one boundary component the Möbius Ring not only adheres to the famous infinity-principle but can also be a personal metaphor of eternity...

The ring can be customized by entering the date of a memorable moment (e.g. wedding day). Per Fluid Forms, the date "fuses with the Möbius strip as a special design element of the unique silver ring." As with some of their other products the made-to-order ring is a combination of 3D print (rapid prototype) and silver casting. The 3D printing adds unique layered aesthetics to the custom ring, the layers can be interpreted as the sum of all the experiences made after the special moment related to the date.

HI,
I think the pictures show bohemian knots instead of Möbius strip. Am I wrong?

No, you're not wrong. Those are not Mobius strips.

Also, there is no "famous infinity principle".

OK, it's not a non-orientable two-dimensional surface with only one side when embedded in three-dimensional Euclidean space. And it's more like famous infinity symbol (but not in the math sense, more like popular).

Hi Guys, you are right! These are not Möbius Strips. We have called them Möbius Rings because the Möbius Band was the inspiration and the starting point in the development of the algorithm.

The Möbius Band is of course a surface and not a solid, so instead of differentiating a line with the lead curve, we differentiated a closed curve. We also added some additional parameters to create some more dramatic movement in the curve.

The Fluid Forms Möbius Ring carries the name of August Ferdinand Möbius as an homage to this great mathematician and a reference to the origin of the algorithm.
