Telltale footprints led to Mat, Satiné, Brillant, the Maison Martin Margiela installation in Zona Tortona last week, a recreation of its Paris interior design workshop. This creative studio was a delight to behold; bathed in many shades and textures of white, it provided an atmosphere that was both peaceful and inspiring. The furniture was brought down from Paris and set up to replicate the workshop, but in the space were also pieces from the new houseware collection. The trompe-l'oeil wallpaper, rugs and carpets were wonderful, as were shelving options of giant nails and brackets. Huge snow globes that revealed nothing perched near faceless matrioshka dolls to be used for storage. Another favorite was the embroidered cloth calendar where each page can be cut off to be used as a serviette. What's in the egg cartons? Eggshells that hold fortunes.
