e'mo by Stauffacherbenz
Stauffacherbenz, whom we know for their forward thinking furniture design, has been busy these last eight months developing the lightweight e'mo electric commuter car above together with Rapperswil technical university in Switzerland. Called e'mo for "efficient mobility" and "electric motion", it's a fully working prototype that they hope will be brought to market within the next year. At a projected selling price of 10,000 euro it's the Tesla two-seater for everyone else. Says Stefan Stauffacher of StauffacherBenz "[we aren't] focused on car-design..., it was a really challenging project for our studio and we are proud of the result!" More after the jump.

From Stauffacherbenz:
e'mo is a lightweight electric vehicle for town and local traffic, of a completely new design. Its name stands equally for electric motion and for efficient mobility. Thanks to its very low ready-for-the-road weight of only 350 kg, e'mo is very energy-efficient and thus extremely inexpensive to run. Whether on the way to work, doing the shopping or for a short trip to the countryside, e'mo has room enough for most everyday needs. The cheeky little e'mo is very practical, and gives a novel feeling of carefree mobility.
Consistent with the motto of "less is more" the construction and the equipment of e'mo are simple and basic. In favour of a low weight and a competitive price e'mo renounces all unnecessary technical gadgets but makes no compromise when it comes to ergonomics and safety.
The technical layout allows a serial production even for small to medium sized batches, therefore the capital expenditure needed to start production is very modest compared to a conventional car.
e'mo was shown to the public the first time at Geneva Motor Show 2009 with a very enthusiastic feedback. Currently the negotiations with potential investors are in progress, target date for the market launch is spring 2010.
