The BiC Blue Cabinet by Libertiny
by sabine7 / January 14, 2009

The BiC Blue Cabinet from Rotterdam's Studio Libertiny is a cabinet of American maple that has been painted a deep indigo using an unexpected ink: the blue ink used in the ubiquitous disposable BiC Cristal ballpoint pen. Generously provided by BiC, this ink has iridescent qualities. Once applied, the layer of ink was then covered in dozens of layers of shellac. The final finish is a French polish used on musical instruments and antique furniture. All of this results in a very hard surface over time. The cabinet is handle-free, relying on a push-to-open system, and the gold-plated hinges really stand out against the rich blue.

why bother using maple if you're just going to paint over it!?
