Chew the Vote!

Designer/ entrepreneur Joe Gebbia has sent us some cereal for consideration. In addition to being a designer (see his work here for CITIZEN:citizen) Joe is one of the founders of AirBed & Breakfast, an innovative service for peer to peer lodging, says he, "Recently many of our guests have been campaigners for the upcoming [US] national election. Because we encourage our hosts to make their guests comfortable, by providing breakfast for example, we had some fun and made a promotional cereal to capture the spirit of the times.". The Obama O's and Cap'n McCains are limited edition, only 500 of each were created and they're all numbered. We want to give away a set of boxes, maybe two. All you have to do is leave a comment and tell us what your favorite cereal is and why. We will use a highly unscientific method to select the winner - the "best answer". Deadline November 3rd. Be civil.

I prefer the Obama O's. Very flavorful and colorful.

I remember when I was a little kid I would accompany my mother to the supermarket. The highlight for me would be when she would allow me to chose my own cereal. I always opted for the newest and exciting cereal. And if the box contained a "hidden" prize then I was sure to select that one. My mother always chose for herself and my dad the same old granola-based cereal: Cap'n McCain's. Even to this day, my parents eat that same old box of cereal and simply refuse to try something different. I recently told her about the Obama O's I'd discovered and she looked and me and said, "Sorry son, I'll pass. Your father and I are far too old to be trying something new and exciting!" No matter how many times I told her she was missing this wonderful new treat, she resisted. Well, moms was keeping a secret that not even my dad knew about. About a month ago I went to visit my parents on a Saturday morning. She cooked breakfast for me. I asked my mother if she had any honey to go on top of the toast and she directed me to a cabinet right next to the fridge. Just after I found the honey and was about to close the cabinet's door, I saw it. Way back in the rear of the cabinet was a box of Obama O's, hidden behind my parents' tired old cereal. I didn't say anything but I turned to look at her and she gave me a sly smile and winked. Even if dad wasn't willing to give up his Cap'n McCain's, my mother obviously had jumped ship and was secretly loving the Obama O's!

I don't really prefer either, but Obama O's are the LAST way I'd start my day...any day! I think it's stupid to think you're going to choose Obama O's simply because it's new, 'new' doesn't mean anything. Something repulsive and bitter can be new, doesn't mean we eat it! And colorful, also a ridiculous reason to consume Obama O's. What does that even mean?

I'll have the Cap'n McCain's, the Obama O's might be newest and exciting but I don't want to know what the 'hidden prize' is... Change is good when you change for the better, I trust the old well known brands...
