GEM (GreenEcoMobility), a Chrysler LLC company founded 10 years ago, is introducing the Peapod, a Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle. This gas- and emission-free electric vehicle is scheduled for production in 2009, but the styling model was shown today. This battery vehicle sports a centre console that will offer iPod integration and hands-free use of your iPhone (not included). Ergonomic mesh seating is another innovative aspect to the Peapod. A light-duty battery electric commercial truck and a larger city vehicle are slated to join the Peapod in the GEM line-up. More about speed and charge time after the jump.
GEM neighborhood electric vehicles have a top speed of 25 miles per hour, a range of up to 30 miles per charge (battery charge is extended through use of regenerative braking) and are street legal in more than 40 states. The vehicles can be recharged anytime, anywhere with a standard 110-volt outlet. Recharge time is approximately six to eight hours.

It strikes me as being somewhat ridiculous-looking, no? Clearly they were going for a friendly little electric car with some personality... but a 'happy face' for a front? Seriously? Does it sing songs and have a Saturday morning show as well?
I won't even get into the branding horror they have committed by essentially naming a Chrysler sub-company "GM"...
it's GEM... not GM...
Nice to see some smaller vehicles though
Just read the brochure: top speed 25 Mph, Action radius 30 Miles!
Compare that to the Tesla Roadster (130 Mph, Action radius 250 Miles).
Almost feels like Chrysler does not want it to be a success. Reminds me of:
