London Design Festival: Double Dutch - Part 1
by sabine7 / September 25, 2008

Flowers have always played a part in traditional design, but are often deemed too pretty for contemporary offerings. Yet the forms and colours are hard to beat. The Double Dutch: Appetites and Emotions exhibit organized by the Flower Council of Holland during the London Design Festival reminded us how inspirational floral muses can be and how powerful an element of design. The Appetites segment of the guerrilla show was a lusty banquet designed by Lisa White and Graham Hollick, with two dining tables groaning with plants and flowers. Leaves appeared as tongues; carnivorous plants reminded us of their hunger while a chandelier of flowers cascaded down from above. This sensual feast of creativity spoke to basic instincts and created an appetite for more design.
