Tom Price released the latest additions to his Meltdown series of chairs during the London Design Festival. The element of chance is ever-present in this body of work, as Price lets himself be guided by the properties of the materials he uses around the basic form of an Eames moulded chair seat. A ball of about 10,000 nylon cable ties is the basis for one new seat, while another is comprised of a huge bundle of crumpled polypropylene sheets that, due to its transparent nature, is slightly more difficult to discern as a chair, but almost ethereal in person. His Fleece set of three seats is made from plastics-based clothing, as a reminder that much of the clothing we wear is derived from this versatile material. These latter chairs were shown as part of the Arts Co. exhibit From Now to Eternity that put the focus on plastic, and the former were presented at Tent London.

The chairs melted from clothes remind me of sitting in big piles of warm laundry when I was younger. I came from a big family so not all of the loads were folded immediately.
