London Design Festival: Tom Dixon - The Factory
by sabine7 / September 22, 2008

A Bit of Rough is Tom Dixon's theme this year, referring to the quintessentially British way of looking at things: straightforward and uncomplicated. This directness, frank attitude and lack of pretension are found in many aspects of British industry and Dixon's work is a fine example of this. "A British brand should stick out through its no-nonsense approach to honesty in surfaces and materials, demonstrating innovation and a robustness that goes beyond short-term fashionability," says Dixon. The new pieces from the Tom Dixon collection fit the bill: elegant, understated and oozing comfort. The pieces were launched at a Knightsbridge ballroom transformed into an upholstery factory during the London Design Festival, where Dixon also launched his new book The Interior World of Tom Dixon, a heavy tome that catalogues his varied inspirations. The installation was bright, airy and unaffected, underlining Dixon's outlook and the new Wingback Sofa, a new favorite, was as enveloping as it was simply stylish.
