Soap Opera is a piece by Sovrappensiero that puts the focus on touch and smell. Even as art lovers we can allow our appreciation to become passive. As we rush through a gallery or museum, we take it all in with a glance, then move on. At home, works of art we put on our walls can often become invisible. Soap Opera (or "work" in Italian) is an interactive piece that must be touched repeatedly to be understood. In addition, the piece does not lie flat upon the wall: the angle that juts out gives it a sculptural aspect. This piece reminds us that to observe is not only to look with our eyes. Still, we had to ask Lorenzo more.
Does the "observer" touch the "canvas" with wet hands to wear off the layers and reveal more layers underneath? Or are the different textures/scents side by side?
"The "observer" touches the layers made of soap with wet hands to wear off the layers and reveal the layers underneath. The picture you might have seen, with different textures side by side, was a little model to let people understand that the frame has different layers. It was a way to show everyone the inside of the frame, as it would take a lot of time to wear off all the layers."

SOVRAPPENSIERO ROCKS ON.
