The first designboom mart to be held in Australia took place at the Powerhouse Museum during Sydney Design 08 under the banner of Young Blood Designers Market. This section of any design show is always crowded and you can hear the buzz before rounding the corner because it is an excellent way to gain first-hand experience of current accessible design from a variety of young designers. Of course, this usually means that the pieces on offer (priced between $10 and $100) are practical and often wearable, like the jewellery by Christiana, bags from Departure Lounge and buckles from Gretchen Hillhouse. Graceful, handpainted slot-together seats or small tables were on hand from Zaishu and colourful lighting, also from Departure Lounge, was all aglow.
