Lacquer Scale 2:1
by sabine7 / July 24, 2008

Shanghai design company Neri & Hu officially launched at 100% Design Shanghai last month, although the brand was founded in 2006. The company bases its products and furniture on inspiration drawn from a Chinese identity, but in a modern context with global appeal. Simplicity is a key factor, one that is clearly demonstrated by pieces from the Lacquer Scale 2:1 collection, such as Dish above. Traditional lacquered pieces wear bright colours and have been enlarged so that they are now used as the furniture or tables they used to sit upon. The Extend set of mirrors is inspired by bamboo ladders common to most Chinese households, but again in different proportions. The 1/3 Salt & Peppers are 3 shakers (salt, black pepper and white pepper) that combine to make up one shape that represents a whole.
