Offline meta data! Valerie Madill proposes a new way of perusing library shelves by inserting the books into colour-coded sleeves that provide substantial at-a-glance bibliographical information about each book. Important information can be accessed without opening the book, or even pulling it right off the shelf. The user can locate the object of a search faster by honing in on the appropriate wrap colour. Examples shown are based on non-fiction books.

Fun post. ;-)
oh. i'm in love with this idea. esp. since i care more about how my books look aesthetically on the shelf than whether they're in alpha author order or in dewey decimal order. i'm not fuckin' parker posey in 'party girl'.
This is just what I needed to shake me out of the bout of design burnout that I've been feeling lately. I'd like to see this implemented in stores; the last few times I've been in Borders I've been thwarted by their poor shelving strategy (and overwhelming abundance of terrible spine design).
Although aesthetically pleasing, this idea is too wasteful to support or implement.
great work valerie!
It's really not that wasteful, considering that each of those books are filled with several pages of blank paper...
Nicely done Valerie X-D
i love it. good job valerie!
